Best Swimming Pool Games
Here are 5 swimming pool games to play on your next visit. They require no equipment except your spirit and desire for fun!
Growing up, the daily trip to the neighborhood pool was undoubtedly the highlight of the summer season. Over the course of these countless swim sessions my compatriots and I developed an impressive repertoire of games to enhance the pool experience. The following are some of my favorites to help boost your swimming pool experience.
1) "Goofy." This one happens to be my personal favorite. Pick one person to start of as "goofy." He/she then picks a category (e.g "food"). The rest of the players huddle up on the opposite side of the pool and pick an item matching the chosen category (e.g pizza, chocolate, pretzels etc). Once everyone has picked something, they announce to the "goofy" their choices. The "goofy" then yells one out and the two race across the pool. First one to make it across yells "goofy!" and then assumes the position of "goofy," picking a new category.
2) "Sharks and Fishes." One person starts off as the shark and the rest of the "fishes" gather outside. The fishes then jump in the pool and attempt to swim to the other side without getting caught by the shark. Those who do get caught now become sharks, and join the original shark in his/her quest to catch the fishes. Repeat this until there is only one fish left, who is crowned the winner!
3) "Marco Polo." This game is a timeless classic. One person closes his/her eyes and assumes the role of Marco. He/she then yells out "Marco!" while the rest of the players yell "Polo!" Marco must use his/her ears to try and find the screaming "Polos." When Polo is caught he/she then becomes Marco.
4) "Pool Olympics." Divide into fair teams and compete in a variety of competitions (races, dives, cannonballs etc). Grade the competitions on a 1-10 scale. Either you can get an impartial outsider the judge or trust the other teams to fairly judge your teams' acts.
5) "Chicken." Here is another classic. Gather a group of players (you need at least four) and divide into teams of two. One person then hops onto the shoulders of his/her teammate, and the battle then commences, with each team fending for themselves and trying to knock the other teams over. Last team standing wins! (Warning: make sure to play in the middle of the swimming pool, not near the edges).
