Salt Chlorine Generator for Your Swimming Pool
No more smelly chlorine, no more stinging eyes, and no more green hair if you use a salt chlorine generator in your pool.
If you ever have been in a pool where the water felt silky and fresh and had no chlorine odor, you probably were swimming in a pool that used a salt chlorine filter.
Being a transplanted Bostonian now living in Tampa, I am clueless in my knowledge of maintaining a swimming pool. However, I do know a good thing when I see it.
The best things about living here in Tampa are the weather, and having our own solar-heated swimming pool. We are able to swim practically year round, but maintaining the pool is not one of our talents. To ensure that we don't get sick from E-coli bacteria, and that our pool's insides don't crumble away; we leave the pool's upkeep to a very capable local service company.
Last year the pool service company offered to replace our old chlorine system with a new salt chlorine generator. They would maintain and own the system until we moved away or cancelled their service. Then they would re-plumb the old system and there would no charges. This sounded O.K. to us.
As of today so far, so good. The change in our pool water quality is amazing. The strong chlorine odor is gone and the water is sparkling clear and comfortable. The pool no longer needs to be "shocked" with large doses of chlorine as part of its cleaning process. My mermaid and her friends don't have to wait two hours for the chlorine to dissipate every week when the pool is cleaned. Our skin feels better, our eyes don't sting and my blond hair doesn't get a greenish tinge. We feel refreshed and clean, not sticky and smelling like bleach.
Now for the technical part. The comfortable feeling occurs due to the small amount of salt in the water, like showering with a water softener. However, you can't feel or taste the salt.
The salt chlorine generator eliminates the weekly "shocking" of the pool. It makes chlorine by running a salt solution across a weak electric field. This happens in the "cell" of the chlorine generator.
The result is that the pool water feels silky and smooth and the low chlorine amount is less irritating to the skin and the eyes. Pool maintenance service is every other week instead of weekly. The pool still needs to be cleaned and the ph balanced.
In, conclusion, we have been most pleased with our new system. We all use the pool more often. Because of the RSD pain I sometimes experience, the pool water is perfect for my water therapy exercises.
