Amazingly Simple Ways to Slim Down for the Summer!
I think everyone gets that urge to take better care of themselves by the time warm weather comes around. We all think of tanks and shorts and even swimsuits. Really, it's not very difficult.
Not all of us want to be in tip-top shape all of the time. Some of us just want to lose a few or to feel better and have more energy throughout the day. Whatever the reason, being a healthier person will tend to make us a little bit happier, a little bit better-looking, and a little bit smarter. Here are some simpler thngs you can do, I have found, that have kept me slim, toned, and more youthful looking and feeling.
1. Plan your meals for the day. Before I fall asleep each night, I go over in my head what I am making the following day. It gives me a bit of a head start on the whole process. If I have places to go, I think of what I can make and take. I get up the next morning with a sense of clarity and calmness. I don't have all the confusion about meals and so forth. It is fun to pre-plan, too. It keeps us focused and aware of what we are consuming. If you are intending to eat well, think of all you need to buy and how long those things will last you. I buy for a week, usually. I love to wake up an hour early and get everything organized for the day. It's worth it to me.
2. Drink Green Tea. I cannot say this enough. If you don't like it, LEARN to! It is packed with antioxidents and has personally allowed me to keep extra pounds off. It boosts my metabolism and is much healthier for me than that cup of java I so love. I still treat myself to my once a week Starbucks, however! It is a good way to get your fluid intake up as well. I do not mean the canned green tea or most of the bottled green teas. A lot of them have extra sugar or HFCS in them. I am referring to the bags that you brew. I buy organic but you don't have to. Just start drinking brewed green tea.
3. Lift weights and do resistance training. You don't have to lift a lot. Do whatever you are comfortable with. Any amount that you do, that you weren't doing, will help. I usually do use my 5, 10, and 20lb. dumbells to strengthen my arms. I stretch out each morning. I do an elliptical machine for about a half and hour each day. I try to do about 200 crunches each day. I like to push myself so we bought an in-home gym and I work out on it a lot with my husband. I like to do push-ups the traditional way as well. Now, I have two small children so I have to pick and choose my workout times. They come first, working out comes after them. I notice results the first few days when I start using weights, even lighter ones, with my physique. I like a longer, leaner look for a woman. I don't want the bulky, masculine look. I use lighter weights with lots and lots of repetitions! This, coupled with daily cardio (of any kind), keeps me toned and firm.
4. Drink that H20. Make a habit of drinking water frequently. I fill a large cantene up in the morning and leave it on my table so that I am reminded to drink. It has greatly improved my complexion, my digestion, and my energy levels! I only drink quality spring water, nothing else.
5. Apple Cider Vinegar. I know this sounds disgusting. Some people will never try this. Whenever my grandfather wanted to lose his belly fat, I would catch him downing a glass of cold water and vinegar. He would mix about 3/4 water, 1/4 vinegar. It is something you have to get used to, but the health benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar are astounding. I hear there is an entire website devoted to it. It does clear up acne, mine disappeared once I was ingesting ACV on a daily basis.
6. Get outside. If you can find a reason to get outdoor, you can usually find a reason to get active in some way. Whether it is walking the mall, riding your bike, walking your pup, playing at the park with your kids, there are plenty of ways to start moving. I like to mow my grass, walk down the street with my boys, roller blade on weekends, and jog when I feel sleepy. Whatever form it takes, get your outside exercise as often as possible! It truly does wonders with children! Mine sleep better, eat better, and tolerate one another better when they are allowed outside time.
7. Eat your favorite fruits and veggies more than other foods! My diet is healthy. I eat healthy fats like avacadoes, nuts, and seeds. I use Olive Oil a bunch when I cook. I eat lean meats like fish, chicken, and turkey. I enjoy a steak now and then, too. I love seafood! But, the largest amount of food that I consume daily are fruits and veggies. They are in every meal and I have never looked better. I went down 4 sizes and have about the same figure as Jessica Alba, pre-baby. I don't make meats, breads, or even dairy the largest part of my meal, ever.
8. Portion control. This is the biggest thing you can do to help yourself out. Diet is 80% of your physique. The rest is working out and the way you work out. I have known people who have amazing figures and all they do is control how much they eat at each sitting. One of my good friends made point that stayed with me. She noted that why pig out at any meal when we are able to eat that same stuff again? It's not like it's going anywhere! She eats three large bites and savors them. If she wants a bit more she has it. She never stuffs herself and she always has plenty of variety in her leftovers! My Mom's entire family battles obesity. She practices portion control and has never been anywhere near heavy. She is a healthy size and has an amazing figure at 50 years of age.
9. Sleep! Try to get as much sleep as you can whenever you can. It's not necessary to get more than 52 hrs. per week, however. When I sleep too much I feel lazy and unmotivated. If we get enough rest we do not eat as much, usually, and our metabolism is better for the zzz's. We feel rejuvinated instead of like a slug.
My biggest motivating factor is my children. They need me to feel my best and be strong and healthy for them. I want to stay decent looking for my husband as well. I want my brain to function at its best, my heart, my entire body to experience well being! I want the same for others. A healthier mindset as a people empowers us to help others and envigorate one another on our life's journey.
