Summer Swimming Pools in Louisville, Kentucky
Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer and is the weekend when many pools open for the first time of the season. This summer, there are several pools for Louisville, Kentucky, residents to visit to keep cool when the weather outside gets hot.
Louisville Metro Parks Public Pools
The city of Louisville angered many citizens this summer when they announced that they would not be opening several public pools this summer due to a budget crisis which is being blamed on the rising cost of fuel. Because of this there will only be four public pools open in Louisville this summer, Algonquin Park, the Fairdale Pool, Norton Pool, and the pool at the Sun Valley Community Center.
All pools will be open Monday through Saturday from noon until 6 PM, and on Sunday from 1 PM to 6 PM and the Fairdale Pool will remain open until 7 PM on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The pools will alternate the days on which they are closed, on Mondays the Fairdale Pool will be closed, while the Algonquin Park Pool will be closed on Tuesdays, the Sun Valley pool on Wednesdays, and the Norton Pool on Thursdays. Admission costs are $1.50 for those seventeen years of age and younger and $2 for those eighteen and older.
This summer the pools will also offer a free shuttle service to and from the area pools. The shuttle will pick up pool patrons at the five area pools that will not open this summer and take them to one of the area pools that is open this summer. Lakeside Swim Club
Lakeside Swim Club is located near the Louisville Zoo on Trevilian Way and is one of the area's oldest private swim clubs dating back to 1924. The pool opens for the summer season May 24th and remains open until September 1st.
The pool is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM, and on Sundays from 11 AM to 9 PM. Lakeside Swim Club is a private swim club and does require membership. You can learn more about joining Lakeside Swim Club by visiting their Web site.
Louisville Metro YMCA
The Louisville Metro YMCA has several branches with pools. Swimming pools can be found at the Downtown, Southeast, and Southwest locations. The Northeast YMCA has just built the Calypso Cove Family water park which will open on May 24th and will be open seven days a week this summer from 11 AM to 8 PM.
Admission to Louisville Metro YMCA pools does require YMCA membership but according to the YMCA website they believe membership should be open to everyone and therefore offer discounted memberships based on your family's income.

E.P.TomSawyerState Park
E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park is home to an Olympic size outdoor pool that opens Memorial Day weekend and remains open through Labor Day weekend.
The pool is open Sunday through Friday from Noon until 6:30 PM, and on Sundays from 10 AM to 6:30 PM. Admission to the pool is $4 for visitor's ages six and up, $3.50 for children ages three to five, and free for children under the age of two.
