Soap Carving You Can Do with Children
Soap carving can be good clean fun. Soap it a wonderful substance to get creative with. Children can pretend the soap is a piece of wood and make a statue or a animal with it.
All you need to carve soap is a bar of soap and a spoon. If your child is old enough to use a butter knife then you can let them have a butter knife to carve their soap with. Soap carving can be messy so it is best to be done on a table covered with an old cloth or newspaper. And everyone doing the carving should have old clothes on.
When carving soap you can use any size bar of soap you would like but a nice big bar of soap is better to get creative with. If you are lucky enough to have a bar of home made lye soap that will work as well. Unwrap your bar of soap and decide what you want to make with your bar of soap. You can make pretty much anything you want with your bar of soap. A turtle is an easy project for your first soap carving. Turtles are sort of shaped like a bar of soap. Soap is a soft material so a spoon will work to carve a bar of soap just fine. A knife can give your bar of soap more detail then a spoon can but it is more dangerous.
After you have finished your soap carving you can use the bar of soap to wash up with. Or if you prefer you can let it set on a table or shelf and enjoy your art work. Carving a bar of soap can be a great activity to do by yourself or with others. It can be a great child's party activity.
