Please respect the serious swimmers.
As I prepare to go to the gym for another day in the pool, I face a little bit of dread within the pit of my stomach because I am not looking forward to dealing with rude people that I share the pool with. Between people who won't share, other who wear underwear and those that bully other people out of the water it is sometimes a great effort to enjoy my time at the gym.
SHARE THE LANE:
There are three lanes in the pool at LA Fitness where I regularly swim at, but sometimes there are more than three people swimming in the pool, most swimmers will move over and share the one lane.
Unfortunately, there are a few overly serious swimmers that will not share a lane, and that creates a bit of an issue for the ones waiting to feel the sweet waves of the water.
If you are swimming in the pool, you should be aware of those who enter the pool, if you have a lane to yourself move over and share. Everyone pays the same price to swim in the pool and everyone deserves a piece of the water.
PLEASE WEAR SWIM TRUNKS AND DECENT SWIMWEAR:
I understand that sometimes a seeing a sexy body is inspiring to those of us who are a little flabbier, but there are married women and married men that go to the gym too. I have seen women go into the hot tub wearing a string bikini, which barely covers the private areas. I am not sure if these women realize it or not, but they are not on a tropical island. I feel that wearing something like that to a public gym should be considered in decent exposure.
There are also men who have graced my poor eyesight with the goodness of their underwear. I do not need to see the gonads of other swimmers hanging out, it's gross and disgusting. Of course, Speedos are gross and disgusting too.
It is great that you have a nice body and you want to show it off but, it is another thing to consider your surroundings. There is no need to show off all of your body in a public place where people are just trying to work out. There is absolutely no need to be temptation for the married fellow gym members.
DON'T BE A BULLY:
There is a group of about five guys that come to the gym. They are there around the same time I am and every time I see them. They take over the whole pool. If a swimmer is on the side towards the parking lot, he or she will be bullied out of that lane.
These five guys will just play around in the pool, they won't even swim much and they always splash around and create a chaotic environment for other swimmers in the pool.
If you and a group of friends are wanting a lane to yourself, wait until the lane is free. It is not fair to push someone out of the lane just because you want to play. That swimmer was there at the pool first. Therefore, you should wait your turn.
In conclusion, being respectful to the other swimmer is the best etiquette of all. Consider how you would feel if you were the other person you are sharing the pool with. The main thing is, have some manners and cover your body with decent appropriate swimwear.
