Tips on How to Turn Your Pool Blue in Three Days
Here are some easy tips to turning your green pool blue.
First you'll need supplies. Check your local listings for a pool supply store. There are major stores like "Pinch-a-Penny" and there are family owned stores that would love to help you maintain your pool. Here in my area, I go to "Pool Stream," a family owned store. If you haven't gotten it already, you'll need a pool brush with a long pole. This will allow you to brush the dead algae away so that it could drain right into the filter. Then, you'll need some pool chemicals to help you kill those nasty algae. I personally prefer "SeaKlear" products. They are cheaper, effective, and safe to use. You'll need to buy 3 bags of shockwave shockers, 1 bag of (SeaKlear) yellow algae killers, 3 (1) gallons of liquid chlorine, 1 bottle of (SeaKlear) clarifier, and 1 bottle of (SeaKlear) Algae Prevention and Remover. The chemicals alone will cost you roughly about 60 bucks. But 60 bucks will definitely go along way.
Now that you've got your supplies, we will start by turning off your pool pump. The water will be steady, allowing you to watch the bottom of your pool as you pour the chemicals in. If your pool is green, start off with the 3 bags of shocker. Carefully cut the shocker and walk around your pool as you pour the contents in. Next, carefully cut the yellow algae killer and pour it evenly as you walk around the pool. Now, it's time for the liquid chlorine. We will use 2 gallons for now. Be careful as you open the cap. Pour 1 gallon at a time as you walk around the pool. Then it's time for the clarifier. Pour 1 bottle evenly as you walk around the pool. As for the last gallon of chlorine and Algae Prevention and Remover, we will save that for later. If your pool is blue, go ahead and add the Algae Prevention and Remover. This product will keep your pool blue for the next 3 months or more, depending on how much rain you've got. If there has been no rain, then your pool will stay crystal blue and clear for the next 3 months.
Once all the chemicals are in the pool, go ahead and run the pump. The pump is to be running for the next two days; this will create movement in the pool so that the chemicals can spread around as it kills the algae and sanitize your pool. Now take the pool brush and help move the algae along so that the chemicals could kill it. Make sure you brush the algae towards the drainage. In the next 48 hours as your pool turn colors, you could repeat the brushing as much as you like. As the chemicals work their magic, make sure you clean your filter. Do it at least 3 times a day with the two days. So total, it would be 6 times until your pool is blue. When cleaning your filter, please make sure you turn off the pool pump.
It has been a day and you see that your pool has a hue of baby pool with some cloudiness. Do not worry! The clarifier will clump dirt, oil, and algae together so that it could easily be filtered. Once this process is done, you'll see that the pool is clearer.
On day 2, you will see that the pool is blue and the cloudiness has subsided much more. Go ahead and pour the last gallon of liquid chlorine into the pool. After you've done that, pour the entire bottle of Algae Prevention and Remover. Let the pump run for another day. The pool should be blue and clear on the 3rd day. You can now set the pool pump on a timer as usual and enjoy your pool again. You could also swim on the 3rd day or if you want to be extra sure, take a sample and test your pool with a home test kit or you could take it to the pool supply store for testing.
Your pool will now stay blue for the next three months or more. Make sure to add half a gallon of liquid chlorine per week to upkeep the cleanliness of your pool. Depending on the rain, you might need to add a gallon or two of chlorine.
