Betty Page or 'Bettie', as some call her, was born April 22, 1923 in Nashville Tn to a very humble family. She was a sexy 5 feet 5 inch tall blue eyed raven haired girl born to Edna Mae Pirtle and Walter Roy Page. Her parents travelled from city to city and her father was in and out of trouble. Eventually her mother divorced him in the early 1930s.Although you could say she came from a dis-functional family, Betty was a very intelligent girl and she finished second in her class. Her first endeavor was to become a teacher. She Attended college for her bachelors degree and later received her degree while married to her first husband, Billy Neal. But the relationship ended in divorce in 1947 and Bettie continued working as a secretary traveling from San Fransisco to Miami then Haiti and finally to New York, where her destiny awaited her unawares.

Of course prior to 1950, Bettie did some modeling but it was in the year of 1950 that she made a very influential friendship in New York. While walking on the beaches of Coney Island, she met Jerry Tibbs. Jerry was a police officer and amateur photographer. He offered to take pictures of her for her portfolio that she had been considering. She modeled for him at his studio and some of the pictures ended up on the cover of a Harlem newspaper; this proved to be very popular. As her career began to take off, it was Jerry Tibb's idea that Bettie should cut her hair into the signature bangs that she wore throughout her career. He told her that since her forehead was high, the look would be more appealing. Bettie kept this style and was very meticulous about the appearance of her hair. Many times she caused delays in the photo-shoot because of the obsessive combing and styling.

Bettie's career started to grow from there. Within a short period, she started to pose for amateur "camera clubs" and was appearing in cheesecake magazines such as Eyeful and Titter. Then her fame began to grow more as she discovered Klaw Studios. She was found in New York by Irving Klaw's Movie Star News outfit(where she began her bondage/fetish photography and became the most popular model.) During this time, she made frequent visits to Florida to pose for Bunny Yeager and other pin-up photographers comprising many of her beach shots.

Some of Bettie's photos were discovered by Hugh Hefner and this led to her becoming the playmate of the month of December in the year of 1955. Her Photo consisted of Bettie totally nude with only a Santa hat, while she held an ornament. All of her pictures showcased in Playboy were taken beforehand but Hugh Hefner still considered her to be one of his favorite playmates. He made the statement that "Bettie has a certain saucy innocence about her."

Bettie's style was unique and much of her wardrobe was custom made; custom made by Bettie herself. Bettie had learned to sew at a young age and she used this craft to make many of her skimpy bikinis and other costumes. Other peices of course,like the fetish and bondage wear, came from Fredericks of Hollywood and the stock of Klaw Studios.
Bettie voiced her opinions about the latest fashions and usually cared only for clothing that fit her well.

Her career went on to feature her in three films: Striporama(1953), Varietease(1954) and Teaserama(1955). Bettie once did a screen test in Hollywood but refused the casting couch, rejecting overtures from studio executives and Howard Hughs. In New York, she studied acting from Herbert Berghof and appeared in two well known tv shows; "The U.S. Steel Hour" and "The Jackie Gleason Show."

Bettie is the fan of Betty Davis and has her pick of favorite in the modeling industry today. She is a fan of Claudia Shiffer and Cindy Crawford. She has been depicted by many different artists including Olivia de Beradinis, whom drew Bettie in very imaginative situations including bondage. A song was written about Bettie as well as various comic books depicting her image.

As of her whereabouts today, well, Bettie can be found living in California after at least two other divorces and several different re-locations. It is asked why Bettie retired from modeling and the most popular and consistent reply is that she became sanctified. Bettie supposedly, after a couple of failed marriages, walked into the church and decided to end her modeling career. When speaking to her of how she was the sexual icon of the times, she replies with surprise. Bettie surely doesn't know the influence she had over us and the beauty that she shared in the industry.

According to television, Bettie died in December of 2020 of rumored heart attack. She will be fondly remembered.
