Sugarbush and the Mad River Valley Hot Vacation Spot

The tennis, hiking, mountain biking, golf, zipline, lift rides, swimming in both river swimming holes and at the Health and Racquet Club are all great experiences, but there is more to see in the area.

The Mountain provides tennis, golf, mountain biking, a zipline and lift rides as well as a Health and Racquet Club for swimming, rock climbing on the wall, and racquet- ball. Just down the road in Waterbury, about a fifteen-mile drive, one can find a plethora of activities to make the trip worth it. From ice skating to sampling chocolate Waterbury is worth the drive.

The Waterbury Ice Rink is open all year and rents ice skates so the family can enjoy an hour or two on the ice while the temperatures outside are much warmer. This is an enjoyable way to cool down and depending on when you go, you could have the rink to yourselves. The rink provides milk crates that non-skaters can stack up and lean on to push around the ice and stay on their feet. Skating is a lot of fun and far less expensive than an amusement park.

After an hour or two of skating, one can continue north on Route 100 and hit Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory. The factory gives tours that end with a sample of a new ice cream flavor. This is an interesting tour that allows children to see how ice cream is made the natural way. For another inexpensive stop on Route 100 from the Mad River Valley heading north, stop at Ben and Jerry's.

The Cold Hollow Cider Mill is a mile or so from the Ben and Jerry's factory and offers a chance to see how cider is made. There is also a store that vends Vermont products and a couple of other stores within walking distance that are interesting to visit. Just a stone's throw from the Cold Hollow Cider Mill is Champlain Chocolates and The Cabot Cheese Factory. Both offer samples of their wares and a wide variety of products to purchase. The Chocolate Factory offers factory seconds that are just as delicious as those they sell for full price. The reduced priced goodies make this a favorite stop for the locals.

If one wants to explore further north Burlington is 15 miles from Waterbury. This town offers boat rides on Lake Champlain, shops and restaurants galore as well as a view of the cows. The cows are new this summer and represent various businesses. The basis of the project is to end childhood hunger. The following website will show a bit more about the endeavor, but the cows are definitely worth viewing if one has time. The City of Burlington is a great place to visit.

Another great place to visit in Burlington is the Echo Museum. This is a great place for kids of all ages. The following website will take you to the Echo and the wonders that the museum has to share with all.

The museum sits on the shores of Lake Champlain and the view is spectacular. Packing a lunch to eat at the outside tables is permissible and far less expensive than buying food at the museum that would not be as healthy as snacks packed at home.
